The great Burgundian cathedral church of Saint-Lazare at Autun and its north facing porch featuring the most vivid representation of the Last Judgment in Romanesque sculpture.

Saint-Pierre at Melle is one of three Romanesque churches to be found in the Poitevin town on the Tours Road halfway between Poitiers and Saintes.

The church of Saint-Pierre-de-la Tour at Aulnay de Saintonge is perhaps the finest example of the Poitevin style of Romanesque. The southern transept porch features a complex iconographic programme of the Apocalypse. For more information click here.

The great collegiate church was the largest of the Romanesque pilgrimage churches and the shrine of Saint Saturninus. La Porte de Comtes was the south transept porch. It features a sculptural programme devote to the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus.

The Benedictine abbey of Santo Domingo lies a short distance south of Burgos. The remarkable cloister features one of the most sublime images in all of Romanesque sculpture: the Journey to Emmaus and Christ depicted as a pilgrim to Compostela. For more click here.

Sangüesa on the border between the kingdoms of Navarre and Aragon was a town which developed into an important pilgrimage halt when the inhabitants were granted a charter allowing them privileges to practice trades and crafts which serviced the needs of pilgrims who were crossing the Aragon river using the seven arched bridge which had been built to facilitate their crossing.
